Distress Signals Indicating the Need for Counseling
Symptoms of marital and family distress arise as individuals, couples and families experience normal developmental stages and face special needs and problems.  Some distress signals to look for are:

  • Feelings of marital and family dissatisfaction
  • Frequent problems with a child's behavior, school adjustment, or underachievement
  • Poor communication skills
  • Complaints of "unexplainable" fatigue
  • Emotional distress when talking about one's fiance, spouse, children, parents or other family members  
  • Feelings of loneliness, isolation, moodiness or depression
  • Drastic weight fluctuation
  • Eating disorders  
  • Compulsive behavior related to internet use or other electronic media
  • Overdependence on tranquilizers, energizers or sleeping aids
  • Abuse of substances such as alcohol and other drugs
  • Repeated financial difficulties
  • Inability to set or attain goals
  • Repeatangry couple pictureed employment difficulties
